Paw Joggers Summer Temperature Guidelines

ˇ         ALWAYS monitor pets on walks and runs for exhaustion and/or injuries

ˇ          Warmer weather requires hydration breaks and slower, easier walks and runs with rest breaks.

ˇ          Carry water with you or plan a route where water is available.

Warm weather temperature guidelines:

Temperature

(Heat Index)

Activity

75-80

Normal runs/walks*

80-85

Slower paced runs/walks

85-90

Walks only

90+

SLOW walks (shade)/outdoor breaks with indoor play

* Extra caution should be taken for snub-nosed breeds (brachycephalic) such as: boxers, pugs and bulldogs

Preferred terrain:

1) Dirt trail/grass

2) Concrete

3) Blacktop--try to avoid if possible.  Cross quickly and do not allow pets to stand on this extremely hot
    service, unless well-shaded

Paw pads can get easily burned.  Be cautious of where pets are walking/standing.  Protective booties are options if pets will adapt to wearing them.
